Barra Honda Cave Expedition |
| |
Plunging deep into the earth (in some places as far as 787 ft. down), the limestone caves at Barra Honda glisten with stalagmites and stalactites, and offer up a wonderful place for adventurous underground exploration.
This guided tour begins with a short hike through the park's dry tropical forest before heading underground. As you descend into caves, you'll hear the sound of water dripping against rocks, and see the twisted, ghost-like formations of hardened calcium all around you.
After a few hours spent exploring the ins-and-outs of the caves, you'll emerge above ground and have lunch before ending the day with a visit to the Guaitil indigenous village. Here you'll have the opportunity to purchase some of the country's finest Chorotegan pottery.
