Rental Car Tips

- When making your reservation, take the time to understand what your insurance covers and how much it costs.
- Make sure that the reservation includes everything you wish, such as additional drivers, GPS, car seats or a cell phone. Our agency includes all taxes and unlimited mileage in our car rental rates.
- A $750 refundable deposit will be paid directly to the car rental agency at the time of pickup. This deposit covers collision, major damage, and car theft. The rental car company will return this deposit upon return of the car. It is advisable to pay the deposit with a credit card and not a debit or check card. In the case of paying with the latter, you could have your deposit money frozen for a month.
- In Costa Rica, most rental car companies use a 24-hour rental system. This means that if you rent a car for a week starting on Tuesday at 9 a.m., you’ll have to return it the following Tuesday at 9 a.m. If you return it later, you risk being charged a late fee or an additional day, although many companies will give you a grace period of an hour or two.
- In event that you are pulled over by transit police, do not sweat it. The best policy is to accept the ticket and turn it over to the rental company. The rental company will apply the ticket to your bill.
- If you are involved in an accident, do not remove the car until the police instruct you to do so, regardless of how much the other honk and scream.
- Do NOT leave your baggage unattended in your rental car as unfortunately incidents of petty theft have been on the rise.
